$51, 491- $77, 236 GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Plans, organizes, promotes, administers and supervises the City's recreation/athletic program; performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position involves professional recreation planning and administering outdoor and indoor athletic activities for youth and adults, and special athletic events.
The work requires the development and maintenance of a broad athletic program including extensive public contact with private groups, civic organizations, City officials, and the general public in the promotion, development, and maintenance of events.
The work is performed under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Superintendent and is reviewed for results obtained and consistency with departmental policy.
Supervision is exercised overpaid and volunteer personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plans and organizes recreational sports programs and events for various age groups; Recruits, schedules, trains, supervises and evaluates all part-time and volunteer workers in the athletic program; Promotes and publicizes sports programs and events; Responsible for all team, league and tournament scheduling; Promotes the athletic programs and interprets its place in the overall recreation program through public releases, brochures, and extensive personal contact with interested groups and individuals; Maintains accurate records; Conducts organizational meetings for sports programs; Organizes training for officials, scorekeepers and coaches; Coordinates with other City departments as necessary for activities and events; Assists with the preparation of yearly athletic programs and budgets; Recommends purchases of athletic equipment and supplies; Keeps abreast of current developments and trends in the field; Prepares, recommends and enforces athletic policies, rules, and regulations; Confers with Parks & Recreation Superintendent to provide advice and assistance on athletic matters; Supervises Recreation Specialists and Part- time Staff.
Evaluates performance of assigned personnel.
Nights and weekend work may be required.
JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
This position involves light work requiring the employee to occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force and less force frequently to move objects.
Physical activity related to this position may include standing, walking, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Sufficient visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data figures, visually inspect equipment to find small defects, perform extensive reading, and use a computer terminal.
An employee in this position may be subjected to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and noise.
The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of principles, and practices of recreation and physical education; good knowledge of skills in the major sports and a variety of other sports; ability to plan, organize and promote athletic programs; ability to develop long term plans and programs, and to evaluate work accomplishments; ability to use a computer; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City Officials and employees, and with the general public; ability to effectively present facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; initiative and resourcefulness, good organization skills, thoroughness and dependability.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Graduation from a college or university with a degree in recreation administration and two years experience in planning athletic programs and events; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
